On a camel wool main field lie “latch-hook” medallions also known as Mushwani medallion. Mushwani is also the name of a tribe which use this medallion motif in its textiles, but not all textiles with this medallions are made from Mushwanis. (see also T.Cole).
The Mushwani medallions in this rug are composed of three interlaced levels. The central level is shown only in the medallions which are woven complete, and shows a motive with four a diamond surrounding double headed animals or birds. Second level is also knotted in the half medallions on the sides. It is a Ashik in different colour as the center motif. Outer level forms the latch-hook medallions with latch-hooks only to the outer side.
If one look at the camel-wool main field one can see a real latch-hook-line drawn with this colour and building a lattice for this rug. So we have also here a for Baluch typical two level motif rug, one level build the latch-hook medallions and the other level build the latch-hook-line-lattice. So there is no background space in this rug.
This rug’s main border has different and with no system coloured Kartshin-Göls and as second border a Sarchalka border is flanking on each side. As both Sarchalkas are not coloured in the same way, the border system looks not symmetric.
Unfortunately the ends are gone.
A goat hair wrapped Shirasis built the sides of this rug.
Although rug is in poor condition it is very colourful.
