The brown main field is filled with two “latch-hook” medallions also known as Mushwani medallion. Mushwani is also the name of a tribe which use this medallion in its textiles, but not all textiles with this medallions are made from Mushwanis. (see also LINK).
The Mushwani medallions in this rug are composed of five interlaced levels. The inner three levels are built from variations of the Aschyk motive the outer two levels are built from latch-hooked lines which forms a diamond. The hooks from the latch-hook-lines are smaller than the most ones seen in rugs with this type of lines.
This rug has only one border in a “S”-type Gyjak. Gujak borders build mostly the secondary border, here it represent the main border and includes small diamonds. It is flanked from a simple, small white brown Aladsha border.
The broad ends from this rug are made white and brown coloured in “floating weft” technique. The ends main stripes are flanked from horizontal lines of brown Ashyks. The main stripe contents two horizontal stripes of vine-border in white and create, upper and lower, halves of Chamtos and also in the middle complete Chamtos motives.
For such a small rug really broad goat hair wrapped Shirasis built the sides. The rug is in very good condition.
